So after two years of only having 45 mins MAX for an assignment while in Chillicothe and Rockford, coming to Denver has been a great change of pace to that . The Post gives you a nice chunk of time to really dig into an assignment and make great pictures especially on those really great ones that need just a tad more flushing out or waiting for that one image. The last month or so, I have had two of those that needed just a hair more time when it came to being able to represent the story in it’s entirety. I am going to spread the two out so it will at least look like I use this website once a year or so. Here is a little bit about the George Washington Patriots.

George Washington High School has gone almost a decade without reaching the playoffs in football, but last year that changed when Coach James Everett took over the ship. This year the Patriots¬†started the season 5-0 and became a target in the league for a team to watch for in the post season. The school for me reminded me of where I came from. These weren’t the rich kids or even middle class for that matter when it comes to some. I mean I have never seen a poster in school that was basically begging students to come to school, but in GWHS there was one. So for me to be there was kind of important to me and hopefully for them. Coming up in the same area, I know for a fact that the Daily Southtown never came through Rich East for a day and photographed our practices nor games unless we were playing a Marian Catholic, Homewood-Flossmoor or Rich Central (which for the people not from the south suburbs of Chicago, those are the pretty well off schools.).

I got to the school about 3:45 and didn’t head back to my car until about 7:45 when the sun fully set. The kids were great and I hope the photos reflect that. Now enough of me talking and more of me showing.

Thanks
-B.Lewis
